If CD$ is 565 should i start medication now
Response from Dr. Young
Hi and thanks for posting.
Current US treatment guidelines recommend treatment for all people living with HIV who are willing, and able to be adherent to treatment. To quote, " Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is recommended for all HIV-infected individuals to reduce the risk of disease progression." (If you live outside of the US, the World Health Organization now recommends treatment when CD4 counts are below 500.)
If you were my patient, I'd garner all the needed baseline laboratory and clinical assessments and make an individualized decision about when, and what treatments to start.
Hope that helps, BY
