Q and A

Oct 27, 2013

Also, I note that you're on a quite unusual regimen of 3 NRTIsand a NNRTI. Is there a reason for the 3NRTIs? Do you have adrug resistance history?

No I don't have a drug resistance history. I changed my meds to (Edurant+Epzicom+Viread)Combo from (Kaletra+Truvada) It was chosen to avoid Emitricitabine due to the skin darkening effect. Is there any other better combination for my case?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

If you've stopped the emtricitabine (FTC) because of side effects, then it's most commonly replaced by its close cousin, lamivudine (3TC, Epivir; part of Epzicom).

In your case, without a history of viral drug resistance, it seems reasonable to either continue on Edurant with Ezpicom or to use Edurant with Viread and Epivir.

Hope that helps, BY
