Missed Dose

Jul 21, 2013

I currently take a combination of four medications. Three of them are taken once a day and one (Isentress- 400MG) is taken twice. I usually take the evening dose after dinner. After taking this morning's dose, I realized that I forgot to take the evening dose last night. What effect will that have on my readings?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

Isentress (raltegravir) should be taken twice daily, but in the specific instance of missing a dose of this medication, you could simply take the missed pill with the next dose-- the medication is nearly as effective taken once-daily as twice, so there's little harm in catching up this way.

There should be no effect on your viral load readings.

Be well, BY
