Possible double dose of Complera

Jun 26, 2013

What if on a given day I blank out and forget whether or not I had taken my regularly scheduled Complera with a particular meal? Is it better to run the risk of a missed dose or take (possibly) another dose at the final meal of the day? Would the body or the virus itself treat this like any other drug and build a tolerance to it making consequent doses less effective?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

A single missed dose (in an otherwise adherent schedule) has little impact on developing drug resistance.

Similarly, if your tolerating your medications, a single double dose generally doesn't cause problems.

Yours is a circumstance where having a pill box will help you know if you've taken, or missed your daily dose.
