question re meds
May 25, 2013

Hello, I really need your advice please. I stopped taking my HIV Meds 14 days ago (Prezista, combivir and do not remember the 3rd). Now my doctors are trying to force me to start taking the same medication again. is it safe to start taking the same meds again 14 days after stopping them? I would really appreciate your expert advice. thanks & regards, David

Response from Dr. Young

Hi David and thanks for posting.

I'm not so sure about being "forced" to be on medications (being on medications is a good idea, but should be voluntary), but it's ok to resume a regimen that's been interrupted, unless the interruption was because of treatment failure.

I think the real question is why you stopped. If it's because of side effects or problems with pill count or adherence, these aspects should be discussed before resuming.

Be well, BY
