CMV+ donor allogenic stem cell transplant in CMV- patient
Apr 19, 2013
If an immune suppressed patient whom was CMV- receives CMV+ donor cells, what is the possibility of the patient having complications from this? What if the patient is an immune suppressed infant that is receiving the CMV+ donor cells?
Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for posting.
While I'm no expert in transplantation medicine, usually hosts and donors are matched for their CMV status.
Indeed, when CMV- recipients receive CMV+ organs, there is a higher risk of rejection and CMV-related complications. I would assume that the same applies to infants.
Hope that helps, BY
