HPV and Hiv

Hi doctor, Im afraid because I development a wart in my ass. I think it will be hpv. Im nerbous because I have hiv and my cd4 is only 141. I started my treatment last march. If I really have hpv this is very serious? I will see a doctor in 25 de january.

Hello and thanks for posting.

Human papilloma virus infections are very common in the general population, but especially among people living with HIV. While not an emergency, getting screening and care for HPV-related complications (ranging from warts, to pre cancerous lesions and malignancies) is recommended.

With your CD4 count of 141, the first priority is getting your HIV under control and improving your immune health. Doing so will actually lessen the likelihood of HPV problems.

That said, you should have a conversation with your doctor about anal health screening and anal pap smears.
