| pep after 72 hours Nov 23, 2012 I had insertive vaginal intercourse with a commercial sex worker in Philipines , without condom. I saw a doctor on day 3 after contact, who prescribed me tablet Atripla for 30 days. Unfortunately it took me a day to get hold of these pills. So my question is whteher starting PEP after 72 hours useless? Most studies and websites recommend to start it within 72 hours. So I have been taking it for a week now. Please tell me should I continue or am I just wasting medicine on myself? |

Response from Dr. Young
Hello, PEP is only effective if started withint 72 hours of the exposure. I would not have recommended starting in your situation, though getting screened for other sexually transmitted infections would be a good idea. At this point, I'd probably stop. Be well, BY | |||||||||
