Meal calories required while taking Reyatez, Truvada, and Norvir
Nov 22, 2012
I have a concern about how many calories I should eat while taking this combination in the morning with my breakfast. Trying to loose weight, my meal plan calls for 300 calories. After 2-3 hours of taking my pills, I usually get diarrhea but then stools return to normal later in the day. I am worried that I may not be absorbing enough food for my medications. My doctor's seem uncertain. My diet is very healthy such as oatmeal, wheat toast or eggs. I do vary my meals but still get the diarrhea 4 or 5 days out of 7.
Also, I was non-detectable 3 months ago, this test showed my VL at 102. T Cells at 917; should I be worried?
Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for posting.
There's no specific caloric requirement for atazanavir (Reyataz), only that it be taken with food.
As for your viral load, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Tests like this are usually insignificant "blips" and return to undetectable.
