I am about to start treatment - What is the best option
Oct 24, 2012

I am about to start treatment, for what i read Atripla is the recommended first line regiment, problem is that i live in Mexico and Atripla is not part of the medical plan in here. I may be able to find it or buy it but my question is, what is the difference between to take one pill once a day (Atripla) or to take: Efavirenz + Emtricitabine + Tenofovir, separately but the 3 of them at the same time once a day? is there any difference? what am i missing? if you can please explain me. I want to do what is best for me and in order to take the best decision i need more information. "Thanks" we really appreciate your time helping us.

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting desde Mexico.

So long as you can take three pills (once daily), there's not a great difference between the efavirenz+emtricitabine+tenofovir and Atripla, since both regimens contain exactly the same medications.

Un abrazo, BY
