Infected at childbirth?
Sep 3, 2012

My son is close to 6 years old, and seems active and relatively healthy, although very slightly underweight. Also he lost a couple of his baby teeth in the last few month from falling out - he had previously lost 3 from school playground accidents. I have recently developed symptoms of possible hiv. My last HIV test was in July 2005 (neg) - could i have unknowingly passed this onto my wife and son. This is destroying me, more then the thought of being infected myself. I will go for a test soon, i am just trying to muster some courage.

Response from Dr. Young

Thanks for posting.

Breath easy. If your wife (the mother) is HIV negative, there is no, absolutely no way that your son is HIV infected.
