which one is better Jul 16, 2012 which one is better in every aspect (tenofovir/emtricitabine/efavirenz) vs (lamivudine/emtricitabine/efavirenz)? tenofovir can produce bone and kidney problems but is lamivudine based regimen as active as tenofovir in suppressing HIV? BOTH ARE ONCE A DAY PILL? |

 Hello and thanks for posting. Are you sure you have the right second regimen? One would not use recommend this regimen, as lamivudine (3TC) and emtricitabine (FTC) are very similar medications. Furthermore, while lamivudine is a very well tolerated medication, one would generally not substitute 3TC for tenofovir. So, given the two options, there's no decision. The tenofovir/FTC/efavirenz regimen is preferred and is also available as a once-daily tablet. BY | ||||||||
