I AM ON ATRIPLA, WHICH I USUALLY TAKE AT 9PM EVERY NITE. I CAME HOME VERY TIRED ONE EVENING AND OVERSLEPT, MISSING THE TIME. I AWOKE AT 12:15AM.....I WAS EXTREMELY DISORIENTED AND SCARED.....I HOWEVER TOOK IT AT THAT TIME REALIZING THAT I DID NOT HEAR MY ALARM GO OFF AT THE APPOINTED TIME. WHAT ARE THE COMPLICATIONS OF DOING SUCH? WOULD I BECOME DRUG-RESISTANT??
Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for posting.
Other than perhaps having a little more of the efavirenz side effects for the day, there shouldn't be any complications of taking your dose a few hours late. Certainly, I have no concerns about this one late dose alone causing treatment failure or drug resistance.
Be well, BY
