Response from Dr. McGowan
Hi, The usual dose of Crixivan is 800 mg (2 capsules) every 8 hours, it should be taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal). Alternatively, Crixivan may be administered with other liquids such as skim milk, juice (avoid with grapefruit juice which may effect the blood levels), coffee, or tea, or with a light meal (e.g., dry toast with jelly, juice, and coffee with skim milk and sugar; corn flakes, skim milk and sugar. According to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (http://www.ismp.org/tools/donotcrush.pdf), the Crixivan capsule coould be opened and mixed with a fruit puree, such as banana.
