tpha positive
Jun 10, 2012

does it mean if you are tpha positive it is possible that you have syphilis?im confused because my doctor once you got positive result for tpha it will remain in your blood for the rest of your life however he said that syphilis can be cured. if syphilis can be cured why then tpha will remain in the blood?tahnks for your help.

Response from Dr. McGowan

Thanks for the question. The tpha is an antibody test that becomes positive if a person has syphilis. The antibodies will remain in your blood for life (it is just like after having a vaccination). So after the treatment, other tests (such as the RPR test) will decline indicating a response to treatment.
