White tongue May 9, 2012 I have had a white tongue for almost two weeks, with an occasional dry mouth. The white does not scrape off, it's like it's part of the tongue. It does not respond to salt water gargles. Nor to diflucan. What could this be besides thrush? I don't drink, but I am using nicorette gum. |

 Hi and thanks for posting. White surface on tongues could be part of the normal physiology or something pathological. A common normal variant is called geographic tongue, with the appearance of white patches that move with time. The fact that your white coating didn't respond to fluconazole treatment (a potent antifungal) is very strong evidence that yours isn't Candida infection (thrush). BY | ||||||||
