| second exposure PEP Apr 7, 2012 After being on Aspen Lamzid PEP for about 3 weeks, I had a possible exposure. Would I have to extend the treatment? If I just finish the month course after having a second exposure would I be at risk of getting HIV? Would I have to extend the treatment for an additional 3 weeks? |

Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for posting. There isn't good scientific literature on this topic, particularly since one could consider your curent PEP as a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) too. That uncertainty said, I'd be inclined to suggest treatment for an additional 3 weeks. Don't forget that when you speak to your health care provider to mention this; you should be (re)screened for other sexually transmitted infections (other than HIV). If you have repeated risky exposures to HIV, it might also be worth a conversation about whether PrEP is suitable. Be well, BY | |||||||||
