Atripla. alcohol and elevated liver enzymes
Mar 31, 2012

Hello Doctor Young and thank you for all the work you do for us HIV + people and in general. thanks. diagnosed 2010 with cd4 350 vl 10.000 and now cd4 750 and undetectable. takin atripla since march 2010. it looks like everything is working good but every time a have few beers or any alcohol it seems that my liver enzymes goes up. i dont take more that 3 beers in the weekends. then stop alcohol and my liver enzymes comes back to normal. i also take a multivitamin and a CQ10 every day in the morning. test for hep a-b-c and negative for that. do you think that alcohol just doesn't go with the medication, or maybe something else. im 31 years old in good shape exept for this little friend that i carry with my all the time. Thanks

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posing your questions.

In general (and especially as long as you don't have active viral hepatitis), taking an occasional alcohol beverage won't cause any problems.

Thanks too for your kind words. This has long been a labor of love. BY
