Truvada meds

Mar 3, 2012

Hi Dr. Young, This is the 3rd day that I am on PEP treatment. My question is, my doctor only give me Truvda for PEP treatment, is that good enough? Or I also need to take Kaletra and Truvada combination?

Best regards

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

Either option is ok; there's a lot of variation to what's recommended for PEP regimens.

This is from the US nPEP (non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis) guidelines: "Preferred regimens include efavirenz and lamivudine or emtricitabine with zidovudine or tenofovir (as a nonnucleoside-based regimen) and lopinavir/ritonavir (coformulated in one tablet as Kaletra®) and zidovudine with either lamivudine or emtricitabine. Different alternative regimens are possible."

Be well, BY

after pep again :-)
I had a (-) HIV test six months ago; why did I need another today?
