Response from Dr. McGowan
While we cannot say that a negative test at 6 months is 100% indicative that a person is not infected it is essentially true. Nothing in nature and science is 100%. There have been a few cases of late ser0-conversion reported, some in the setting where hepatitis C was simultaneously transmitted. The new Antigen-Antibody combo tests have virtually 100% sensitivity (in that if an infection is present in a sample, the test will be positive). So, especially if a person has tested negative on 2 or more occasions the likelihood of being truly negative is extremely high. Joe | |||||||||
