hi doc, can i take nevirapine 400 once a day dose instead of 200 twice a day (in combination with other 2 medicines of course)? i am very much afraid of side effects of efavirenz. regards.

Hello and thanks for posting.
Here in the US, there is an extended release version of nevirapine (Viramune XR) that is approved for once daily dosing. In many parts of the world, doctors have been prescribing nevirapine as a once daily medication using the standard formulation.
Being concerned about side effects is reasonable; since it appears that you have not yet started on medications, you should try to get the best information about your best options. Do know, however, that many people are taking efavirenz-based treatments world wide- it's actually one of the most commonly prescribed medications.
Be sure to ask your health care provider about all of your treatment options and their relative risks and benefits.
