HIV and arthritis: problem with DMARD
Feb 14, 2012

hello doctor BY, i am taking gold compounds for rheumatic arthritis, ridaura (auranofin). but recently i saw this gold compound kills hiv reservoir cells, activates latent hiv and destroy infected long lived cd4 memory cells. is it going to give me benefit for both hiv and arthritis or bad result would happen? please help.

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

While there are some interesting very preliminary studies that suggest that certain gold-containing compounds might have HIV activity, there are no sufficiently powered (sized) studies about benefit or safety in people living with HIV.

Please help before it's to late, baby coming!
