| CD8 significance Feb 4, 2012 I understand that HIV infection generally makes CD4 counts decline and CD8 counts increase. With successful treatment this trend reverses, i.e. the ratio of CD4 to CD8 increases. Normal is between 1 and 6. Looking at my results over the past 5 tests (18 months)my CD4 has gone from 796 to 1006, yet my CD8 has gone from 774 to 1174. A steady ratio of about 1. My doctor is not concerned, but it leaves me curious. Why hasn't my CD8 count decreased? Any insights? |

Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for posting. I'm with your doctor. Your overall results, especially your CD4 count and CD4/CD8 ratio are all in the normal range. BTW, I'd double check your normal ranges for the ratio- I'm happy if my patients are anywhere near 1.0. Be well, BY | |||||||||
