DRACO and HIV
Dec 20, 2011

Hi doc, can DRACO (probable cure for any viral illness, a double stranded RNA technology)cure HIV? there is not the name of HIV in the list but in some other inks they include HIV.

Response from Dr. Young

Hello,

DRACO is a laboratory-based strategy that exploits cellular double-stranded RNA mechanisms that appears to have broad anti-viral activities. A recent publication in the journal PLoS, shows activity in the test tube against "5 different viruses, including dengue flavivirus, Amapari and Tacaribe arenaviruses, Guama bunyavirus, and H1N1 influenza".

It's a long way from this intriguing concept to a treatment, never mind "cure" for HIV. Stay tuned.
