Atripla equivalent
Dec 3, 2011

I started a new job and my insurance deductible is outrageous, I can't afford to pay for my medicine. I am currently on Atripla and the regimen seems to we working well. I was wondering if I could possibly take sustiva 600mg, emtriva 200mg, and viread 300mg? Would this be the same as taking the Atripla once daily tab, the cost are much more affordable less than 70 bucks for all three in comparison to 1500 for 1 pill.

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

Since Atripla is efavirenz (Sustiva)+tenofovir (Viread)+emtricitabine (FTC, Emtriva), provided that you have no difficulty taking three pills instead of one, there is no difference (other than your cost).

Report back on your experiences, I'm sure that our readers will be interested to hear.

Be well, BY
