Seman and blood in water
Sep 29, 2011

Seman and blood in the bukket with water .i used this water for bath.what are the transmission risk of hiv?how long hiv virus survive in water?

Response from Dr. McGowan

Is this water that is shared with others who may have left blood or semen in it? Would be best to use freash water if available.

There would be no risk of transmitting HIV if you are washing your body and you have no open wounds, the skin is a great barrier against HIV.

Also the virus cannot last long in freash (non-salted) water. The cells disrupt due to the osmotic pressure (cells have to keep their salt and water balanced or they burst).

Would not worry.

Joe
