Response from Dr. McGowan

This is a very common question, infact have answered it 3 times today!

HIv doesn't live well outside the body (mostly dead in a few hours), especially once dried. There have been no reported cases of HIV being spread from the environment after exposure to dried blood on objects lying around. The virus can be detected after about 2 weeks from the time of infection on average.

Best, Joe
