Is use of immune boosters recommended?
May 11, 2011

A brother of mine has been on Combivir+nevirapine for a year now. At first he was on a combination of Nevirapine, lamivudine and stavudine but he had to switch to combivir after some lactic acidosis. His CD4 count was 67 when he switched but now it is at 156.Should he start taking immune boosters like canova seeing that the progress is really slow. Is there any other immune booster you can recommend other than Canova?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thank you for your post.

Your brother appears to be having a very good initial response to his new therapy.

So-called immune boosters are in general, scams. A search of the National Library of Medicine finds no references to improving of immune function.
