my MEDS
Apr 29, 2011

i am taking Truvada once in morning and Isentress morning and 12 hrs later. Can I take ibuprofen for pain?

Response from Dr. McGowan

Thanks for the question.

You can use ibruprophe or other NSAIDS for pain as long as it is for short-term (a couple of days). Longer or more sustained (chronic) use man cause kidney damage and that can lead to problems with one of the medicines inside Truvada (the tenofovir). Short term use for a few aches and pains or an acute injury is OK. Be sure that your kidney function is normal first, use the NSAIDS with food to avoid stomach irritation and check with your doctor that you do not have any other medical condition that would need you to avoid NSAIDs first.

Best, Joe
