Response from Dr. McGowan
Anything that can cause a break in the mucous membranes or inflammation could increase the risk of HIV transmssion. The risk of transmission of HIV on mucous membranes is very small to begin with. There are many other poor health risks from chewing tobacco..including dental cavities, gum disease, mouth cancer among others. It would be advisable to stop...not for risk of HIV but for these more real risks. Best, Joe | |||||||||
