mosquitos have syringe like mouth
Feb 18, 2011

Hi Dr. mosquitos have syringe like mouth by which it can suck the human blood, as the metal syringe is hollow from inside and the mosqutoes mouth also hollow. by which the can get their food. can you tell me what the hiv transmmition possible by mosquito bites?if not why?

Response from Dr. McGowan

The mosquito sucks out blood but does not spit out blood. It will only release saliva which does not contain HIV. HIV cannot grow inside an insect.
