one drop of HIV infected blood Feb 18, 2011 Hi Dr. if one drop of HIV infected blood is enterd in my mouth or in any body part having muccus membrane such as nose ,eyes then what will be the chancess of HIV infection? |

 In general the risk of HIV transmission on mucous membranes (eyes, mouth, etc) is less than 1 transmission every 1100 exposures. So the risk is very very small. It would also depend on how much virus was in the blood...a very high viral load would be more risky, a low viral load (if someone was on successful treatment) would be much less risky.
