Melatonin and Viral Load
Dec 31, 2010
Hi Dr McGowan,
Is there any study on the effects of melatonin supplements on viral load? Can melatonin supplements mask plasma viral load to undetectable? There was a paper a while ago that talked about a negative correlation between viral load and melatonin (Nunnari et all). I am paranoid because of a recent possible exposure, and am wondering if using melatonin supplements (~8 mg/day) could be a factor in an undetectable PCR RNA VL in the window period (~5 weeks), or if that's very, very unlikely. Thanks.
Response from Dr. McGowan
Hello Melatonin is not a factor in achieving an undetectable HIV-1 viral load. Thanks Joe
