| Please an answer about my first line meds Aug 11, 2010 Hi Dr. I am from Peru and I just wass diagnosed 1 month ago. I started taking my meds 3 weeks ago as follow: Douvir (twice a day) and Stocrin (600 mg before sleep). Side effects are ok until now (only a little bit rash). My question is if this combination works, do you think it will work for many years? Or you think sooner or later the virus became resistant. Thank You Adrian |

Response from Dr. Young
Hola Adrian, Thanks for your post from Peru. The combination of AZT/3TC (Duovir, we call it Combivir) and efavirenz (Stocrin, Sustiva) is one of the most widely prescribed first-line regimens around the world. AZT/3TC was once very popular here in the US, but used less so now because of the availability of better tolerated nucleoside combinations (tenofovir/FTC and abacavir/3TC). Nevertheless, if monitored, well adhered to and if you don't experience significant side effects, there's no reason to think that the regimen won't work for many, many years. Be well, BY | |||||||||
