| Phase III studies of the Quad Pill Jul 29, 2010 I've read quite a bit about the Quad pill but nothing sheds light on when the drug will be released or if it has passed phase three trials as yet. Any word on your end what's going on with it, and could you elaborate about your opinion of the medication? Thanks kindly, Steven |

Response from Dr. McGowan
Dear Steven, Thanks for your question. For others: the QUAD pill is a single dose combo with 4 meds in one pill: tenofovir, emtricitabine (2 NRTIS), cobicistat (a "booster") and elvitegravir (an Integrase inhibitor) being developed by Gilead. The phase 3 studies in treatment naive patients are now underway. The first, comapring QUAD with Atripla (also a one-pill-a-day regimen) has been fully enrolled and data should be coming out early next year. The second phase-3 trial comparing QUAD with Truvada/Norvir/Reyataz (A boosted PI combo) is enrolling now. It will also be tested in a small study of people with decreased kidney function. Keep posted for results. Best, Joe | |||||||||
