| do i have hiv Apr 25, 2010 Hello doctor. I had protected sex twice with prostitute. I have tested 4 times for HIV. My elisa test keeps on coming positive but western blot is negative(NO viral band). I have tested with other labs and their elisa test is negative. I am really scared and I am living a dark light. may be your answer will provide light to my feet. I will never make that mistake again. I hope I will hear something from you soon. thanks!!! |

Response from Dr. McGowan
Thanks for your question. We can see "false positive" elisa tests, which is why the western blot must also be positive. Since you have had NO bands on the western blot AND negative elisa's when a different lab was used are all consistent with you being HIV negative. This is a "false positive" elisa. Relax and be safe.
