dear dr joe, i'm 37 year old from laguna. i have tpha possitive right now...how serious tpha possitive is this? have precaution of this problem? can you help me about my problem. please give me a recomendation of this. can you recomend of a specialist doctor for me? hope you answer my question. thanks...........glen

Hello Glen: The TPHA test detects specific antibodies against the agent that causes syphilis. A positive test should be evaluated in conjunction with non specific tests such as a RPR or VDRL, symptoms and other considerations (e.g. previous treatment for syphilis). Bottom line: I agree that you need an evaluation for this result. I would suggest you call the local health department who will be able to guide you to a provider or clinic. Thanks, Joe
