| Health Provider inquiry Nov 1, 2009 I have recently been diagnosed. Is is better to get treatment through an independent health provider such as blue shield or keiser permanente or is the just as good under a state-run program? |

It more depends on who the provider is. The best outcomes are when people get treated by someone who is experienced in treating HIV. They are usually more up to date and can manage the newer medications best. A good way of finding a specialist is through the American Academy of HIV Medicine. This group credentials providers who manage many people with HIV and pass an exam that tests their knowledge about HIV and treatment. You can search for a provider on their website: www.aahivm.org.
