Can I take Zerit (Stavudine, d4T) with Viread (Tenofovir).
Aug 17, 2009

Hi, I just had a quick question. I've been researching everywhere but couldnt find an answer, if I'm taking Zerit (Stavudine, d4T) and Sustiva (Efavirenz, Stocrin), can I take Viread (Tenofovir). Thanks so much for all your help. God bless.

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thank you for your post.

While d4T (Zerit) is not routinely used with tenofovir (Viread, Truvada),nor is this a commonly used NRTI backbone to be taken with efavirenz, there's no particular reason why the two drugs couldn't be combined as part of a multidrug regimen.

The decision to use the combination of d4T, tenofovir and efavirenz would have to be based on an understanding of your previous treatment history, drug resistance patterns and any underlying medical condition.

I hope this is helpful, BY
