I am HIV positive who travel a lot and as part of the medicine I do always carry with is the Moxifloxacin 400mg that is a broad spectrum antibiotic, I carry it as a matter of prevention in case of any complication that require antibiotic (I did not used it yet), my pharmacist told me that it is a strong and powerful medicine that can fight a wide variety of bacteria and infection. I want to know, from you as an expert, if there is any interaction with Atripla or if it is safe to use it in case of? Please give me your valuable opinion or other suggestion. Thanks for your great work. |

Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for your post. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics like moxifloxacin and ciprofloxacin (Cipro) are often used to prevent traveler's diarrhea. They are usually prescribed for 3 days to treat (rather than prevent) diarrhea. There are no significant interactions between the moxifloxacin and the medications in Atripla. Have a great trip.
