Greetings, I'm 30yrs old, been HIV+ for 5yrs. For the past 2 months I have been experiencing rectal bleeding on a daily basis. It only happens when I have a bowel movement. No discharge, no pain, no discomfort, no hemorrhoids, no anal fissures. Went to see a colon specialist, treated it with suppositories, no results. Had a colonoscopy, doctor found some swelling. He sent it to the lab and biopsies came back with no strange infections, no ulcerative colitis, no Crohn's disease. My doctor does not know what is causing the bleeding. He suggested I wait 3 months to see if the bleeding goes away on it's own. I do have anal sex, but always with protection, I do not use any type of anal "toys", I do not use enemas. HELP!

Of course things like hemorrhoids would be very likely, but if that has not been found I would think of an infection that is becoming more common these days: LGV (Lymphogranuloma venereum).

It is an STD caused by chlamydia, can cause chronic proctitis and can often mimic Crohn's disease since it can persist. Bleeding and mucousy discharge are common. It can be treated with a course (or sometimes 2) of antibiotics. You should ask your doctor to screen for it.
