not on meds - insomnia
Apr 6, 2009

I have been + for three years now & not on meds - during this time I have had constant insomnia - have tried various treatments - nothing seems to have lasting effect - pls assist

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for your post.

There are many reasons why one could have problems sleeping- they range from difficulty falling asleep to trouble in staying asleep.

The former often is caused by factors like racing thoughts or late meals (or caffeine); the later caused by sensitivity to light or noise, sleep apnea or restless legs.

In the end, one could easily imagine that the best treatment depends on the cause. I'd suggest having a detailed discussion with your doctor about your symptoms; sometimes a formal sleep study can help.

Best of luck and sweet dreams, BY
