|HIV & Chemotherapy
Apr 5, 2009
I read about someone having chemotherapy and they eradicated Hepatitis C from their body and they no longer have it. This got me thinking about HIV since both are viruses. I contacted the Hepatitis C Association, and here is their response: The drugs we have available right now are called pegylated interferon and ribavirin. Some people consider them to be chemotherapy. They can eradicate the virus in 50 75% of the people who are treated, depending on their genotype.
Could this type of treatment be effective at eradicating HIV from the body?

Hello and thanks for your post.
Unfortunately, while combination treatment for hepatitis C can effectively eradicate the virus from many persons, this outcome still eludes those infected with HIV.
Nevertheless, here's hoping for improved strategies in the future.
