Mar 15, 2009 Hi Dr Ben, if you get your cd4 past 500 and you are undetectable are you back to normal and out of the danger zone ??? l read that the higher the cd4 the better chance to stay heathy and avoid cancer and other illness is this correct ??? thank you for your time |

Hello and thanks for your post. You're correct. Persons like you with normal CD4 counts and undetectable viral loads are at much lower risk of having HIV complications. It remains important to continue to get medical monitoring; patients with HIV appear to be at greater risk for things like heart, kidney, bone disease and cancer-- so surveillance for these issues and preventive medicine are of special importance.
