Hello again, Pneumococcal vaccination helps prevent serious infections from pneumococcus (Streptococcus pneumoniae). It does not prevent Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP). On the other hand, certain antibiotic medications, such as trimethoprim/sulfa (Bactrim, Septra, Cotrimoxazole) or Dapsone do help to prevent PCP and should be given to all patients with CD4 counts less than 200.
