substitute for norvir

Jan 26, 2009

I am currently taking norvir, prezista & truvada once daily. Is their a drug comparable to norvir that does not require refrigeration? I used kaletra but my tryglicedes & cholestrol went sky-high! I am a 51yr old male living with hiv/aids since 11/99. thanks, Ron

Response from Dr. Young

Dear Ron,

Thanks for your post.

A common urban myth is that Norvir (ritonavir) requires refrigeration (sometimes this fuels decision to use Kaletra tablets).

Norvir doesn't require refrigeration, except if your going to keep more than 1 months supply.

Abbott has long promised and yet failed to deliver on the Norvir tablet (no refrigeration requirement). In the meanwhile, we can look forward to the development of alternative boosters (Gilead has one in the pipeline).

I hope this helps.
