| ARVs and alcohol Dec 23, 2008 Three weeks ago I started taking Truvada, Stockrine and Purback. My CD4 count was 182 and viral load 11000. I am perfectly healthy. But I occassionally consume alcohol (whisky). Could this be dangerous to my life. My doctor said it's fine I can have a drink. |

Response from Dr. Young
Thanks for your post. I'd agree that it was time to start HIV treatment and PCP prophylaxis (Purbac, Bactrim). In my opinion, it is ok to have an occasional drink (provided that you don't have pre-existing liver problems, like hepatitis C)-and as long as your partying doesn't prevent you from being adherent to your important medications.
