hi there I am wondering what in your opinion the safest Proven regimen is and what can one expect long term as all the new meds have not been used for long periods

We are very fortunate to have many drugs that are not only very effective against HIV, but very safe as well. Several of these agents have been studied for many years. The current recommendations for the treatment of HIV infections list several potential combinations that in many studies have been found to be safe and effective. Among these for example are tenofovir/FTC (Truvada) with efavirenz (Sustiva), or a boosted PI (Lexiva, Reyataz, or Kaletra). Like with any medication, there are always small chances of side effects after initiation of therapy, that for the most part are mild and easy to overcome.

One thing that is clear is that the risk of not taking medication and allow this deadly virus to progress in your body, way overpasses any small chances of side effects from the medications that you could be taking. More yet, even recent data have shown that even in patients with moderately high CD4 count (between 350 and 500 cells), there are still more benefits in initiating therapy than delaying until the T cells drop to lower numbers.
