Atripla just started
Aug 30, 2008
Hi there, great site the best on the planet and invaluable
I just have a few questions concerning my medication and my bloods
A little history, I had some very strange and scary bloods at first, my HIV infection was no more than 10 months before detection (likely less than 6 months) and my first blood tests where as follows over a 9 week period cd4 % VL 150 mid 20's 3k 150 mid 20's 3k 170 mid 20's 220k!!
My confusion here is the CD4 vers percentage which seem to contradict then the big jump in VL which scared me into starting meds asap.
I began Atripla and after 6 weeks had bloods done again
CD4 290 29% VL 120
Did I start treatment too early, should I have waited considering my only very recent infection, maybe my counts would have recovered on their own as I have read.
OK now about the treatment itself
I normally take my medication between 12.30am and 2am it could vary a little inside this window, is this ok ?
Also sometimes I take food around 1.5 - 2hrs before I take my medication, how critical is the 2hrs no food before. Also i find myself if I have missed this window of 2 hrs before I would then eat maybe 30mins to an hour after taking my medication, my question is really this
Is my window for taking atripla ok +-2hrs and is my food intake before and after really so critical or should I stick to the as directed window.
Thanks in advance

Hello and thanks for your post.
It would appear that you're having a very nice initial response to treatment with Atripla (tenofovir/FTC/efavirenz).
The timing of your medications is not so critical- so it's ok to take your medicines or eat within a few hour window.
Best of health to you,
