thanks for the great work you do here. i appreciate the opportunity thebody provides to ask questions as they arise rather than waiting for an appoinntment with my doc.
how would one know if their virus is suceptiple to ccr5 treatments? what % of patients have a virus that would respond to ccr5 entry inhibitor treatments. in case geography is a factor, i live in the western usa.

Thanks for your post and kind words.
The CCR5 inhibitor, maraviroc (MVC, Selzentry) is one of the new classes of medications for HIV. In order to determine if MVC will be active against one's virus, a special susceptibility test, called Trofile, must be obtained.
The test determines if the HIV enters the cell using the CCR5 or other pathways.
Geography is not really a factor in determining susceptibility, but rather treatment experience and low CD4 counts. In both of these cases, the likelihood that maraviroc will be active is decreased.
